Foundation
At Janus Henderson, we believe investing is a two-way street.
The Janus Henderson Foundation has been the primary giving arm of our organisation. We put our passion and commitment to work to help people reach their goals through our investment products as well as our investments in the community. In both cases, our goal is the same – to make life and lives better.

Our Mission
We exist to invest in a brighter future together by helping youth achieve their full potential, enhancing educational opportunities in our communities, and supporting the ideas and passions of our employees.
Elevating Education
Developing Leaders in Learning
We are committed to ensuring that every child has access to a quality education. We proudly support programmes that foster blended learning, early childhood literacy, enhanced student/teacher relationships and financial education. By supporting initiatives that improve the educational experience and learning potential of children, we hope to make a meaningful impact on student achievement and cultivate the talent of the future.
Grassroots Giving
A Culture of Giving Back
We believe the path to a better world starts at home. As such, we've fostered a corporate culture of social awareness and volunteering among our own employees that has enabled us to extend our philanthropic reach to thousands of deserving organisations around the world. Our people are empowered to give through our Foundation’s Matching Gift and Donations for Doers Programmes. We enable employees to seek funds for their charity of choice through an exciting global, philanthropic competition called the Janus Henderson Charity Challenge. Through these grass-roots initiatives, we support community projects for deprived areas in Asia Pacific, EMEA and North America and research projects that help combat some of the leading diseases impacting populations globally.
Foundation Efforts
The Janus Henderson Foundation seeks to give back in ways that are reflective of our employee’s passions, both locally and across the world. To accomplish this, we invest in regional programmes that support the communities where we live and work, such as Junior Achievement and Musicians Making a Difference.
Junior Achievement
In 2019, the Janus Henderson Foundation announced a grant of $1,585,000 to Junior Achievement (JA) for the redevelopment of the JA Titan® programme Currently, in year 5 of a 6-year partnership, Junior Achievement (JA) has made progress with the JA Titan® project. The programme enables youth to test their skills at running a company in a virtual business simulation where participants compete as managers amid ever-changing economic conditions. Additionally, the in-classroom programme includes a comprehensive curriculum that allows teachers and volunteers to help students understand essential economic, business management and financial concepts.
The Foundation’s support resulted in more dynamic gamification of the programme, while incorporating technology that is more engaging for students, but also allows for a more educational and impactful experience.
In addition to supporting the redevelopment of JA Titan, Janus Henderson employees serve as Junior Achievement volunteers in several communities where Janus Henderson has offices including but not limited to Denver, New York, and Singapore. Junior Achievement serves more than 10.7 million students around the globe in every major geographic location where Janus Henderson has offices making, this a truly global Foundation initiative.
The Mirabel Foundation
The Mirabel Foundation is the only organisation in Australia specifically addressing the needs of children who have been orphaned or abandoned due to parental drug use. The tragedy of drug‐related deaths is compounded by the children left behind. Children without families may find themselves in foster care and sometimes separated from their siblings. The Mirabel Foundation is determined to provide the children and their caregivers with much-needed emotional and practical support. Mirabel’s programmes have made a positive impact on the lives of vulnerable children, ensuring that they are given the best possible chance of a positive, drug-free future; a future where they become valued members of the community.
Project Help India
Project Help India holistically addresses the issues facing India’s poorest of the poor, the Dalits, otherwise known as the untouchables. The human rights of these people are severely challenged. These slum and village communities struggle with an under-resourced education system, drug dependence, human trafficking, and domestic violence. Project Help India offers essential early educational opportunities and a daily nutritious meal to 550 children in 9 centres across 3 states in Northern India. They connect with these kids’ families, providing parenting programmes, counselling and guidance. They also operate an education centre for children and teenagers with profound disability. They strive to impact lives by breaking the cycle of inequity and intergenerational poverty. The funding received through Janus Henderson in 2021 enabled them to expand the delivery of their educational provision by enrolling 100 additional students at their 2 centres in Punjab.
Musicians Making a Difference
Creating Pathways: Alternative Education for At-Risk Youth, supported by Janus Henderson and designed by Musicians Making a Difference (MMAD), has been an important entry-level programme for those who are new to MMAD, an Australian charity that aims to transform young lives through music. MMAD delivers in-person and online creative support to engage, inspire, educate, and empower young people through the power of music and mentoring.
As part of our Corporate Social Responsibility pillars, we must support our local communities through our philanthropic efforts. In the UK, our areas of focus include financial education initiatives, including The Centre for Financial Capability, and Junior Achievement. We partner with Chapter One UK to enhance early childhood literacy through the Chapter One Programme. The Foundation also invests in making the city of London better by supporting the Lord Mayor’s Appeal Charity.
Chapter One
We are proud to support the Chapter One Programme — which enables volunteers to remotely tutor youth ages 6-7 in core reading skills every week. Through this programme, volunteers leverage virtual sessions to tutor students by reading stories, reviewing comprehension questions, and playing games to reinforce the key phonetics learned that day.
Janus Henderson was the first organisation to participate in this programme in Colorado in 2012. And, with the catalytic financial support of the Janus Henderson Foundation, Chapter One was able to launch Chapter One in the UK in 2018.
The Foundation's initial investment was provided to Chapter One, the UK team completed the vital preparatory work for launch; including registering as a charity, recruiting enough participating schools, and identifying corporate partners to kick-start the programme at a reasonable scale. Chapter One UK has grown to 27 corporate partners and 400 volunteers who support 400 children in 21 schools in London (15) and Bradford (6).
Grounded in the belief that learning to read is a basic right with the power to transform lives, Chapter One programmes and services fuse technology, corporate volunteerism, and intensive support to enable meaningful human interaction.
In response to the devastating learning loss experienced as a result of the COVID pandemic, Janus Henderson decided to expand its partnership with Chapter One in two significant ways:
- In the US the Foundation committed to supporting high-dosage early literacy tutoring for students in 4 schools in the Denver area.
- In the UK the Foundation invested in the Chapter One Home programme, an initiative to extend volunteer-supported reading into 300 children’s homes and to involve their parents and carers in boosting their literacy.
As Seth Weinberger, IFL’s founder and US CEO, noted, ‘Janus Henderson has made a deep and enduring commitment to support our work to realise a world in which all children, regardless of background, are confidently reading to learn, grow, and thrive throughout life.’
Junior Achievement

Junior Achievement serves more than 10.7 million students around the globe in every major geographic location where Janus Henderson has offices making, this a truly global Foundation initiative.
The Centre for Financial Capabilities
Janus Henderson has been a long-time supporter of The Centre for Financial Capabilities (TCFC). In 2023, TCFC continued to build upon their mission of ensuring every child receives high-quality and effective financial education. Our annual contribution enables TCFC to fund expert-led money lessons in schools administered by MyBnk, a UK-based non-profit providing 3,000 young people with tools, knowledge, and confidence to manage money.
Janus Henderson is one of the many Britain’s leading savings and investment firms, brought together by TISA, that is supporting this initiative.
The Lord Mayor's Appeal
The Janus Henderson Foundation is excited to support The Lord Mayor's Appeal – A Better City for All. This appeal is designed on four key pillars to build a city that is Inclusive, Healthy, Skilled and Fair for city employees and their family and friends, as well as those who live and work in neighbouring communities in London. They have partnered with several organisations, National Numeracy, Homewards, and MQ Mental Health to help them address societal needs through innovative projects that will make an impact.
This appeal is a great way to build upon the existing initiatives such as:
- Power of Inclusion
- This is Me
- City Giving Day
- The Green Ribbon
- We can Be
Greenhouse Sports
The UK is grappling with a devastating cost of living crisis with the biggest impact yet to come. Extreme poverty rates have left many households in a state of destitution, struggling to make ends meet. These soaring levels of poverty and the resulting household stress have had a profound impact on millions of children across the country who no longer get the chance to play and experience joy. Greenhouse Sports provides accessible places and spaces for youth to thrive. Greenhouse Sports will continue to be there for these children at the times they are most vulnerable. Through the multi-year grant provided by the Janus Henderson Foundation, they partnered with seven primary programmes and provided the following in 2023:
- 1,097 coaching hours
- 455 hours of mentoring
- 194 children reached
Causeway Education
For the past two years, we have partnered with Causeway Education to establish a scholarship for youth in the United Kingdom pursuing a degree in finance. Causeway is focused on supporting young people facing barriers to higher education, apprenticeships and early careers. This scholarship is designed to help create social mobility opportunities so youth can participate and gain access to work experience opportunities while in school.
Just Finance Foundation
Through our multi-year grant with Just Finance Foundation, they have reached 5,018 students across 189 classrooms and 39 schools through the facilitation of the Milo’s Money curriculum. Just Finance Foundation is a UK charity dedicated to improving financial education so that every child and family has equal opportunity to thrive.
Milo’s Money is one component of their LifeSaver Programme and is designed for youth 5-7 years old and educates students about money lessons engagingly and creatively. The Life Savers Programme is designed to deliver financial education training and resources to primary schools by working directly with the teachers, educators, and schools to provide a wide range of curriculum resources and practical activities. With the increase in the cost of living in London, teachers are leveraging this curriculum to instil both the value and relevance of financial education and the importance of starting the financial literacy learning journey at an early age.
Giving back to the communities most in need is an essential part of our strategy and we must invest in education to help develop the future leaders of tomorrow. From grants and philanthropic programmes sponsored by the Janus Henderson Foundation to grass-roots volunteerism spearheaded by employees, Janus Henderson has – and continues to – make a significant impact in North America by investing in organisations like the Young Americans Center for Financial Education, Denver Scholarship Foundation and Junior Achievement.
Breakthrough Kent Denver
We believe in supporting innovative educational programmes in our communities through the Janus Henderson Foundation. Breakthrough Kent Denver has a unique model that focuses on academic success for students as well as the professional development of the future workforce of teachers. This is a one-of-a-kind programme because students come from various school districts and are provided academic coaching and personal growth opportunities to encourage empowerment. Breakthrough Kent Denver has been a part of the students' lives for six years to ensure success.
The Breakthrough programme has a 100% graduation rate and 92% of students matriculate into an institution of higher education. We are inspired by the programme because it focuses on students in need of additional support to achieve academic success. Ninety-two percent (92%) of their students are ethnically diverse, 96% qualify for free or reduced lunch and 72% will be the first in their family to attend college.
Janus Henderson's financial commitment will ensure students have the opportunities and resources needed to continue a pathway to college. Besides supporting students, a key focus of the programme is the aspiring teachers – ensuring those teachers receive the coaching and training necessary to complete a successful first year in the classroom. Our partnership with Breakthrough is ensuring we are developing the future leaders of tomorrow by providing them the support they need today.
Denver Public Schools Foundation
The Foundation has funded innovative, ground-breaking work at Denver Public Schools Foundation (DPS) that allows us to act locally, but influence education nationally. The Foundation awarded a $3 million, three-year grant to Denver Public Schools in 2008 and another $2.1 million, three-year grant to the district in 2012. Denver Public Schools has invested this money in the development of programmes designed to increase teacher effectiveness, improve student outcomes and create unique learning environments for students that utilise today's most innovative technologies. We have also partnered with DPS to create Growth through Connections, a programme focused on student-teacher relationships as well as the EdConnect programme which is designed to expose students to educational careers. In 2023, we were an early adapter of their CLASS initiative, designed to provide wrap-around services for a local school. We are proud to build on this long history of supporting critical education initiatives by investing in the futures of our most valuable resource - our youth.
Denver Scholarship Foundation
To ensure students have access to a college education, The Janus Henderson Foundation partnered with the Denver Scholarship Foundation to create the Janus Henderson Scholarship for Denver Public School students. Denver Scholarship Foundation awarded the Janus Henderson Scholarship to 20 scholars in 2023. Since its inception in 2020, the needs-based scholarship has made college possible for over 50 first-generation students who are pursuing a degree or certificate in STEM, Business, Economics, Accounting, Marketing, Communications and/or Journalism.
Chapter One
We are proud to support the Chapter One Programme, which enables volunteers to remotely tutor first graders in core reading skills every week. Further, the programme expanded internationally, into the UK in 2018 because of the strategic support of the Janus Henderson Foundation. Grounded in the belief that learning to read is a basic right with the power to transform lives, the Chapter One programme and services fuse technology, corporate volunteerism, and intensive support to enable meaningful human interaction.
In 2023, Janus Henderson and Chapter One partnered to develop a story-writing competition for Janus Henderson’s colleagues based on the theme of financial literacy. The competition allowed our people an opportunity to engage in Innovations for Learning’s mission-driven literacy work and develop a creative children’s story. Three employees were selected to have their books published on the virtual platform. They worked closely with the editor to ensure the content was appropriate for the reading level and partnered with the illustrator to ensure the images in the virtual book reflected the rich diversity of our communities.
Junior Achievement
In 2019, the Janus Henderson Foundation announced a grant of $1,585,000 to Junior Achievement (JA) for the redevelopment of the JA Titan® programme. Currently, in year 5 of a 6-year partnership, Junior Achievement (JA) has made progress with the JA Titan® project.
Young Americans Center for Financial Education
Our Foundation has been a valued partner of the Young Americans Center for Financial Education since 2001. Through our partnership, we have contributed more than $548,000 to youth financial literacy programmes. Over the last few years, the Foundation has partnered with the Young Americans Center for Financial Education with a multi-year commitment of $32,000 each year. Our grant allows us to be the exclusive sponsor of the AmeriTowne Centers located in Denver and Lakewood, Colorado. This sponsorship allows us to support over 25,000 children and 5,000 parents and teachers who participate in the AmeriTowne curriculum each year. This curriculum builds:
- Financial Self-Sufficiency
- Smart Money Management Habits
- Solid Business Sense
- Entrepreneurial Spirit
Greenwood Project
The Janus Henderson Foundation is excited to be in year two of our three-year grant with Greenwood Project. Greenwood Project creates career pathways in the financial services industry for Black and Latino students through rigorous training and internships. The $450,000 grant from the Janus Henderson Foundation has allowed high-achieving, underserved students to participate in the programme and focus on their training in a Financial Services boot camp.
In addition, The Janus Henderson Foundation has helped the Greenwood Project to expand its student recruitment efforts beyond the Chicago area by hosting an information session in Denver, CO. Education, business, and non-profit community leaders came together to learn about the Greenwood Project and how to partner with the organisation.
In 2023, we provided additional funding to the organisation to support a seminar for their college scholars. The seminar featured Nobel Prize winner and Janus Henderson Chief Investment Strategist Myron Scholes, Ph.D. The topics covered included decarbonization, innovation, compound returns, risk management, asset, and option valuation, behavioural, finance, and more. Scholes also talked about his background in economics and the significant contributions he has made to the field.
The Janus Henderson Foundation is proud to support the Greenwood Project and sees natural alignment in the organisation’s mission. We are also grateful for our employees who host interns and volunteer their time and resources to support underserved students looking to pursue careers in financial services.
